Miss. St. DE Keith Joseph Jr., father killed in car wreck

Sadly, there’s unbelievably tragic news coming out of Starkville Friday night.

According to multiple media outlets, Mississippi State defensive end Keith Joseph Jr. (pictured, right) was killed in a one-vehicle crash Friday night. Also killed was his father, Keith Joseph Sr., who was an MSU football player from 1989-92.

The father and son were on their way to a football game at the latter’s former high school in Pascagoula, Miss., when the accident happened. No details of what led up to the accident have been revealed.

“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the tragic loss of Keith Jr. and his father,” Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen said in a statement. “Keith had such a promising future as a Bulldog following in the legacy started by Keith Sr., who played for our program 25 years ago. Keith was a great student, a hard worker and a great teammate to all of us. With heavy hearts, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Joseph family, our entire Mississippi State community and all of the lives these Bulldogs touched.”

“Words can’t express the sorrow we feel by having lost not one, but two members of the Bulldog family, father and son,” said athletic director Scott Stricklin in his statement. “I was a classmate of Keith Sr., and took pride in having Keith Jr. follow in his dad’s footsteps at MSU. They will both be missed greatly. It’s such a tragic reminder that life is a precious and every day is a gift from God.”

The younger Joseph was a member of the Bulldogs’ 2015 recruiting class, and was taking a redshirt for his true freshman season.

Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to everyone impacted by this tragedy.
