Ohio State still No. 1 in coaches poll, but just barely ahead of No. 2 Clemson

After a fun weekend of college football saw some top teams take a loss, you knew the coaches poll would have a new look this week. No. 1 Ohio State remains in front of the pack, but No. 2 Clemson has taken a big bite out of the pie of first-place votes to close the gap significantly.

Ohio State received 34 first-place votes, compared to Clemson picking up 21 first-place votes. The Buckeyes finished ahead of Clemson by just 15 points in the final voting totals Clemson jumped past No. 3 Baylor, who picked up fiev first-place votes and remained just ahead of a surging No. 4 Alabama. The Crimson Tide received three first-place votes after knocking off No. 9 LSU (down from No. 4) this weekend. The one-loss Tide are ahead of undefeated No. 5 Oklahoma State, who just handled No. 12 TCU (down from No. 3). No. 6 Notre Dame moved up three spots, No. 7 Stanford moved up one and No. 8 Iowa continues to climb by moving up three spots this week. No. 10 Florida jumped two spots to complete this week’s top 10 in the coaches poll.

No. 14 Michigan State took the biggest fall within the top 25 this week according to the coaches poll. The Spartans fell eight spots after being upset by Nebraska. The Spartans are one spot ahead of No. 15 Michigan. No. 16 Houston is the highest-ranked Group of Five team in the coaches poll, and they are not alone from the American athletic Conference. No. 21 Temple checks in after moving up two spots and Navy makes their debut in the coaches poll at No. 23 after beating Memphis. The Tigers fell from No. 16 but remain int he top 25 at the final spot in the poll.

Other newcomers to the polls this week are No. 22 Wisconsin and No. 24 Northwestern, giving the Big Ten six top 25 teams in this week’s coaches poll.
