Elon WR Demitri Allison dies after falling from UNC dorm

Elon wide receiver Demitri Allison passed away Wednesday from injuries sustained from a 10-story fall off a North Carolina dormitory, the university announced. He was 21.

“According to law enforcement officers, Demitri died this afternoon after falling from Morrison Residence Hall, a 10-story building at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,” Elon vice president Smith Jackson wrote in a post on the university’s website. “He had left the Elon campus yesterday and his teammates, friends and family asked police to look for him because they were concerned for his well-being and emotional state.”

A wide receiver from Cornelius, N.C., Allison started in all 12 games in 2014 and appeared in each of the Phoenix’s nine games this fall.

“Everyone associated with Elon athletics is devastated,” athletics director Dave Blank said in an email to university stakeholders. “Demitri was a talented young man with a bright future who was loved by his teammates. We mourn his loss deeply and we pray for his family and loved ones.”

A “gathering of friends” will be held in Allison’s honor Thursday afternoon at Rhodes Stadium.
