C. Michigan HC John Bonamego proclaims himself cancer-free

With the second-to-last full Saturday of the 2015 season kicking off, how about some good news before everybody starts whining about playoff worthiness?

In June of this year, Central Michigan announced that its head coach, John Bonamego, was fighting a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Two months later, Bonamego was back to full-time work prepping his Chips for the 2015 season.

Three months after that? Bonamego has kicked the c-word’s ass, as the 52-year-old coach took to Twitter to make the revelation to the college football world.

It’s been a very spectacular week for Bonamego both personally and professionally as, in addition to kicking cancer in the keister, CMU became bowl-eligible with a win over Kent State this past Wednesday. In his initial campaign at CMU, Bonamego’s six wins are the most for a first-year Chips head coach since Butch Jones won eight in 2007, and exceeds the four won by Brian Kelly in his first season in 2004.
