Reports: Will Muschamp to interview for Gamecock job

To the utter disbelief of some, the rumor mill has churned out Will Muschamp as potential candidate for a couple of head-coaching jobs, most notably at South Carolina. For those fans of that program who aren’t exactly enamored with even the idea of Muschamp as their new football boss, you might want to turn away right now.

247Sports.com is reporting that the Auburn defensive coordinator will officially interview for the vacant Gamecocks job. ESPN.com has confirmed, writing that “South Carolina officials have already had preliminary conversations with Muschamp concerning the Gamecocks’ head coaching job” and will formally interview him later this week.

According to the recruiting website, the interview will take place at some point in the next 24 hours.

As previously reported, USC will interview Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley. The program has already formally interviewed interim head coach Shawn Elliott, who former head coach Steve Spurrier has lobbied to get the job.

Muschamp spent four seasons as the head coach at SEC East rival Florida, compiling a 28-21 during his time with the Gators. However, after going 11-2 his second season, Muschamp posted 10-13 mark his final two seasons in Gainesville and was fired after last season. He’s in his first season as Auburn’s coordinator.
