The Associated Press released its latest top 25 ranking before the College Football Playoff field is formally announced. If we are to use the AP poll as a preview of what the playoff will look like, Mcihigan State will wiggle past Oklahoma. The Spartans even picked up a first-place vote.
The voters in the AP poll gave Michigan State a championship weekend push by moving the Spartans up to No. 3 this week, passing idle Oklahoma. Oklahoma slipped to No. 4, down one spot from last week. No. 1 Clemson remained on top with 51 first-place votes after topping No. 10 North Carolina. The Tar Heels fell two spots, dropping below No. 8 Notre Dame and No. 9 Florida State in the process. No. 2 Alabama picke dup nine first-place votes.
No. 5 Stanford also received a championship bump, moving up two spots ahead of No. 6 Iowa and No. 7 Ohio State.
