TCU QB Bram Kohlhausen recalls his path to Cinderella bowl hero

The legend of TCU backup quarterback Bram Kohlhausen will be onre remembered in and around Fort Worth, Texas for years to come. With the Horned Frogs without their starting quarterback, Trevone Boykin, due to a team suspension and down 31-0 in the Alamo Bowl against Oregon, it looked as though the Horned Frogs were toast. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Kohlhausen made like Frank Reich and led TCU on a Buffalo Bills-esque rally for the ages to score a triple overtime 47-41 victory over Oregon.

Kohlhausen, a senior, was a guest on The Dan Patrick Show (simulcast on NBC Sports Network) on Monday morning. Patrick asked about Kohlhausen’s path to TCU. Kohlhausen started his college career at Houston, where he redshirted in 2011 before appearing in three games for the Cougars in 2012 and attempted just nine passes. In 2013, Kohlhausen transferred to Los Angeles Harbor College and played for the community college program before returning to the state of Texas to join the TCU program in 2014, where he largely played backup duties behind Boykin.

Kohlhausen also shared a story about how he was able to get his mom on the field after the game. His brother paid someone $100 for a sideline pass on the Oregon sideline.

Kohlhausen appeared in eight games this season for the Horned Frogs, but it will be his last game that will be remembered most. Kohlhausen passed for 351 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for two more scores in the Alamo Bowl win TCU fans will surely never forget.
