Joe Wickline moves on from Texas to WVU as OC

The off-field circus that was Joe Wickline‘s time at Texas came to an end a month ago, but the coach’s career will continue at another Big 12 school.

Dana Holgorsen and Wickline worked together on Mike Gundy‘s Oklahoma State coaching staff in 2010, and now the two will be reunited as the West Virginia head coach announced Wickline as his new offensive coordinator. What Wickline’s duties will be specifically are unclear as Holgorsen calls, and will likely continue to call the plays for the Mountaineers’ offense.

“Joe brings a wealth of experience, and his resume speaks volumes of his ability to build top offensive lines, as well as being a prominent voice in developing offensive units,” Holgorsen said. “We were on staff together at Oklahoma State in 2010, and he brings an excellent familiarity of the Big 12 Conference. I am excited to add him to our staff and welcome him and his family to West Virginia University.”

Wickline spent the past two seasons as the “co-offensive coordinator” and offensive line coach of the Longhorns. His tenure was most noted by a lawsuit filed by his former employer, Oklahoma State, over whether or not he was actually the Longhorns’ play-caller. That suit, in which OSU was originally seeking $600,000 for breach of contract, was settled late last month for a reported $250,000.

In September of last season, Wickline was demoted and Shawn Watson stripped of his play-calling duties as Jay Norvell took over that responsibility
