Florida, DB coach part ways after one year

A couple of weeks after his bowl game, Jim McElwain has decided to make an adjustment to his Florida coaching staff.

The Gators announced in a press release that Kirk Callahan will not be returning as part of McElwain’s staff in 2016. The 30-year-old Callahan had spent the 2015 season coaching defensive backs.

“We are making a change on our staff,” McElwain said. “Moving forward, Kirk Callahan will be looking at some other opportunities and he has a long career ahead of him.”

Prior to his very brief stint in Gainesville, Callahan had spent the previous three seasons coaching defensive backs at UCF. This was his second stint with at UF, having served as a grad assistant with the Gators in 2011 before leaving for the Knights.

Callahan will receive just over $300,000 in the buyout of his two-year contract.
