Concussions end career of BC’s James Hendren, too

Earlier today we noted that a Group of Five quarterback was forced to retire because of head injuries. Now, it’s a Power Five offensive lineman who’s been similarly forced to walk away as well.

On Instagram Monday, James Hendren announced that he has “been medically disqualified from playing football as a result of the number of concussions I’ve had, and the risk associated with continuing playing after those head injuries.” As a result, the lineman wrote, "[i]t saddens me to say that as of today, my football playing days have come to an end.”

Hendren was a three-star 2014 recruit who chose BC over, among others, Arkansas and Penn State. After redshirting as a true freshman, he started two of the 11 games in which he played in 2015.

Entering the offseason, he had been projected as a potential, or even likely, starter at right tackle.
