Auburn confirms addition of Kodi Burns as WRs coach

Following up on reports from over the weekend and on into Monday, Auburn has officially confirmed that it has swiped an assistant from Todd Graham‘s Arizona State coaching staff.

In a tweet posted to its Twitter account, Auburn welcomed Kodi Burns back as the latest addition to Gus Malzahn‘s Tigers staff. Burns will serve as wide receivers coach in replacing Dameyune Craig, the position coach and co-offensive coordinator who left for a job at LSU over the weekend.

Additionally, Burns has been given the title of co-offensive coordinator at the tender age of 27.

The move from Arizona State, where he was just hired early last month as running backs coach, back to The Plains is a return home for Burns as he played quarterback and wide receiver for the Tigers from 2007-10. Malzahn was his coordinator the last two seasons.

Burns was also a grad assistant under Malzahn, first at Arkansas State and then at Auburn in 2013.

“We’re excited to welcome Kodi back to our program,” Malzahn said. “He was a wide receiver on our national championship team in 2010 and was on our staff in 2013 when we played in the national title game. He is very familiar with our system and understands what it takes to win championships here at Auburn. Kodi is a bright football mind who coached two 1,000-yard receivers last year. He will be a big asset to our program.”

The first on-field job of Burns’ career came as running backs coach at Samford in 2014. His first FBS job came the following season as wide receivers coach at Middle Tennessee State.
