Hokies, Terps announce future four-game series

As far as regional, non-conference matchups go, this one isn’t too shabby. Potentially.

Virginia Tech announced in a press release Wednesday afternoon that it has agreed to a future four-game series with former ACC rival Maryland. Each program will host a pair of games, with the Terps traveling to Lane Stadium in 2027 and 2029 and the Hokies returning the favor by making their way to College Park in 2026 and 2028.

The dates for the four game series are Sept. 19, 2026, College Park, MD; Sept. 18, 2027, Blacksburg, VA; Sept. 16, 2028, College Park, MD; Sept. 15, 2029, Blacksburg, VA.

“Virginia Tech fans should be excited about the Hokies returning to the capital region for two more future games,” VT athletic director Whit Babcock said. “The opportunity to get a four-game series against a Big Ten Conference opponent was certainly appealing. Even more importantly, we were eager to renew a historic series against a regional foe in a market where we have a very strong alumni base. Coach [Justin] Fuente and our staff will continue seeking opportunities to bolster our non-conference schedule in future seasons.”

Maryland and Tech have met 31 times previously, with the Terps holding a 16-15 edge in the series. The two teams last met in November of 2013, the Terps’ final season in the ACC before leaving for the Big Ten.
