South Carolina dismisses Al Harris, David Johnson

Two former defensive starters at South Carolina are gone, as Will Muschamp announced Saturday defensive back Al Harris (pictured) and defensive end David Johnson are no longer part of the program.

“They are no longer part of the team,” Muschamp said in a statement. “We wish them the best.”

No reason was given for the pair’s dismissals.

Harris saw action in all 12 of the Gamecocks’ contests last fall, starting four. He collected 25 tackles and four pass breakups. Johnson added 20 stops and 1.5 TFLs. Both players were headed for their senior years.

Harris and Johnson’s dismissals join wide receiver Shaq Davidson among South Carolina players dismissed by Muschamp in the past week. The ‘Cocks are still one over the 85-man limit, meaning a high-stakes game of musical chairs will take place around Columbia until one more player leaves the team.
