LSU grants Anthony Jennings release from scholarship

As somewhat expected, LSU has granted quarterback Anthony Jennings a release from his scholarship. Les Miles and the program announced the news Thursday. Jennings will pursue a transfer to another school to finish out his college eligibility.

Jennings is scheduled to graduate from LSU this summer, so he will fall under the graduate transfer category. This will allow him to be eligible to play at another FBS program this fall, should that be where he lands in the transfer process.
“Anthony did a lot of really good things for our program,” Miles said in a released statement. “As a freshman, he came in for an injured Zach Mettenberger and led us to a last-minute win over Arkansas and then he helped us to eight wins the following year as a sophomore.”

LSU’s quarterback depth may take a hit with the loss of Jennings, but the position should be settled with Brandon Harris entering his junior season in Baton Rouge. Harris led the LSU offense in all 12 games last season from the position. Harris was named the starting quarterback before the start of the season and never lost the job. Jennings had been arrested over the summer, right before SEC media day for LSU, for an alleged unauthorized entry. Those charges were later dropped at the request of the alleged victim and Jennings was reinstated.

“This is an opportunity for Anthony to put himself in a position to help another team have success. We wish him nothing but good fortune in the future and we appreciate all that he did while he was part of our program.”
