WRs coach Lonnie Galloway leaving WVU for Louisville co-OC job

After losing his offensive coordinator to a Big Ten school, Bobby Petrino has turned to the Big 12 for a replacement.

Following up on reports that began surfacing Sunday, Louisville confirmed Monday afternoon that Lonnie Galloway has left his post as wide receivers coach at West Virginia to become the co-offensive coordinator for the Cardinals. Galloway, who will also coach receivers, will share coordinating duties with UofL line coach Chris Klenakis.

Galloway replaces Garrick McGee, who left earlier this month for the same job at Illinois.

Galloway spent the past three seasons as receivers coach with the Mountaineers, and also held the title of associate head coach. This was his second stint in Morgantown, the first coming from 2008-10 as, again, receivers coach.

This will be Galloway’s first job as an offensive coordinator -- he was the passing-game coordinator at Wake Forest from 2011-12 -- although Petrino will serve as the Cardinals’ primary play-caller. Petrino’s son, Nick Petrino, will also coach the Cardinal quarterbacks.
