Reports: Dabo Swinney adding former Alabama teammate to Clemson staff

Clemson is adding two high school coaches to its football staff, according to multiple reports. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Clemson will add Mickey Conn of powerful Grayson High School in Georgia as a defensive quality control coach. The Rock Hill Herald and Football Scoop add Kyle Richardson from Northwestern High School in South Carolina will also join the staff, but the role and title have not been reported. Clemson has not formally announced any coaching hires.

Conn was the high school head coach for a handful of Clemson Tigers including Wayne Gallman, Ryan Carter and Nick Schiessler. He is also the uncle of a current Clemson commit from Grayson, Chase Brice. What’s more, Conn is also a former teammate of Dabo Swinney when the two were at Alabama together.

“It’s certainly been a goal of Kyle’s and he’s worked hard and he’s earned it,”Northwestern Athletics Director Lauren West told the Rock Hill Herald. “Not a coach that we wanted to lose but we certainly wish him well. Kyle has taken Northwestern’s football program to the next level and we’re gonna look to continue that success.”

Richardson has reportedly announced his resignation form his post as Northwestern High School’s coach, so an announcement from Clemson may not be too far behind.
