To the victors go the spoils. All the spoils. More than two million spoils, to be precise.
According to Aaron Suttles of TideSports, Alabama handed out more than $2.2 million in bonuses for winning the SEC and national championships last season.
The bonuses were spread among more than 60 employees -- Nick Saban led the way, obviously, with a $125,000 check for the SEC title and another $400,000 for the national championship. Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart followed with a total of $310,000, then offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin with nearly $150,000.
The bonus checks worked their way down the Crimson Tide totem poll, all the way to assistant director of video services Mark Perschel, who took home a $3,159.73 check for Alabama’s 45-40 victory over Clemson in January.
And, yes, Derrick Henry, A’Shawn Robinson, O.J. Howard and company didn’t receive a dime for their championship victories. Cue the debate.
