Nebraska lineman takes leave of absence to focus on academics

Nebraska’s defensive line took a mild depth hit on Friday. Greg McMullen has left the Huskers this spring in order to focus on some academic concerns.

Nebraska head coach Mike Riley announced the news when meeting with the media on Saturday. McMullen is focusing on issues related to graduating this spring with the intention of getting into grad school.

McMullen has been a fixture on the defensive line for the Huskers after starting in 26 games over the course of the past two seasons. There is no indication McMullen is looking to pursue a graduate transfer out of Nebraska and the outlook still seems to have him included in the defensive line in Lincoln.

Nebraska wraps up its spring practice schedule next Saturday with its annual spring football game, which is typically one of the most well-attended spring games of the season.
