Virginia adds Arizona State grad transfer Jack Powers

For the third time since Bronco Mendenhall took over, and the second time this week, Virginia has added an FBS transfer to its football roster.

Tuesday, UVa. welcomed Arizona State transfer Jack Powers into Mendenhall’s program. Powers had announced earlier this year that he would be transferring out of ASU to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Powers is a grad transfer who will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016.

The Cavaliers also announced that Powers will be a defensive end for the Hoos. With the Sun Devils, Powers was a 6-6, 290-pound offensive tackle.

A three-star member of ASU’s 2013 recruiting class, Powers took a redshirt as a true freshman. He played in every game during the 2014 season, but was not a part of the football team in 2015 even as he remained enrolled in classes at the university.

Monday, Virginia officially announced the addition of former East Carolina quarterback Kurt Benkert. In March, former North Carolina lineman Jared Cohen announced that he had signed all of his paperwork to play for the Cavaliers.
