Tar Heels losing highly-touted 2015 RB to transfer

The rise of Elijah Hood has seemingly cost North Carolina a promising backfield prospect moving forward.

A UNC official has confirmed the burgeoning speculation that Ty’Son Williams has decided to transfer out of Larry Fedora‘s Tar Heels football program. The school has declined to give a reason behind the parting of ways.

Williams would’ve entered the 2016 season behind the junior Hood (first-team All-ACC with 1,463 yards rushing) and senior T.J. Logan (second amongst backs with 400 yards rushing) on the Tar Heels’ depth chart. However, with Logan out of eligibility after this year and Hood expected to make the early leap to the next NFL draft, it was thought that Williams would’ve been the team’s bellcow in the backfield in 2017.

A four-star member of UNC’s 2015 recruiting class, rated as the No. 22 back in the country and the No. 5 player at any position in the state of South Carolina. He chose UNC over offers from, among others, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

As a true freshman, Williams appeared in six games. He carried the ball 19 times for 57 yards in limited action.
