Life is good for Florida State’s football program right now. And when life is good for Florida State football, life is good for Florida State’s entire athletics department.
Which means life is good for Stan Wilcox, Florida State’s athletics director.
The Seminoles have inked Wilcox to a two-year contract extension that will push his original five-year contract -- Wilcox took the reins in Tallahassee in 2013 -- from 2018 to 2020. It is not yet known if a raise will come with the new contract; his original deal paid him $510,000 annually.
In addition to the extension, Wilcox also added a new title: vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics.
“We are fortunate to have Stan Wilcox, and this contract extension and promotion to vice president reflects our support and appreciation of the job he and his staff have done and our excitement about the future of Florida State athletics,” FSU president John Thrasher said in a statement.
“I would like to thank President Thrasher for his faith in me and the opportunity to continue building the very strong brand that is Florida State athletics,” Wilcox said. “It is an exciting time to be a Seminole, and it is an honor to work with and for so many fine coaches, student-athletes and partners throughout the university community.”
Under Wilcox’s direction, Florida State claimed a women’s soccer national championship in 2014, women’s beach volleyball reached a national championship match this year, softball survived to the Women’s College World Series semifinals, baseball came within one win of matching the women’s side by reaching their own College World Series, and women’s basketball and both sides of the golf and tennis teams reached their respective NCAA tournaments.
And there is, of course, football. Florida State is 37-4 (24-2 ACC) with a national championship, two ACC crowns, three BCS/New Year’s Six appearances and ranks among the favorites to win the 2016 national championship.
So, yes, life is good in Tallahassee right now.
