Erstwhile LSU DE Sione Teuhema transfers to FCS Southeastern

Back in April, Les Miles confirmed that Sione Teuhema (pictured, No. 58) had been suspended by the football program and that particular punitive measure may never end. A month later? The door for a return seemed at least a little ajar.

In the here and now, however, it appears the door has been slammed shut.

As first pointed out by 247Sports.com, Teuhema’s name is listed on the online roster of FCS Southeastern. SLU’s head coach, Ron Roberts, subsequently confirmed to the Baton Rouge Advocate that is enrolled in classes at the school and is a member of the football program.

“He’s working out and running with our guys. He’s a dynamic football player, explosive athlete,” Roberts told the Advocate. “He’s had time at LSU rushing the passer. I expect him to be an every-down player for us.”

Teuhema was a defensive end at LSU for his first two years, but will move to outside linebacker with his new team. As the Lions are an FCS program, Teuhema will be eligible to play immediately in 2016, and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining as well as a redshirt year.

A three-star member of the Tigers’ 2014 recruiting class,Teuhema was rated as the No. 19 weakside defensive end in the country coming out of high school in Texas. Teuhema, whose younger brother is starting LSU offensive lineman Maea Teuhema, played in seven games as a sophomore last season after playing in nine as a true freshman the year before.
