Auburn announces future series with Southern Miss

The resumption of the Michigan-Notre Dame rivalry isn’t the only scheduling news coming out as we hurtle toward the start of this coming season.

In a release Thursday, Auburn announced that it has reached an agreement on a future series with Southern Miss. The two football programs will kick off the series Sept. 29, 2018, and then conclude it Sept. 26, 2020.

Both of those games will be played at AU’s Jordan-Hare Stadium.

“I’m excited to announce the renewal of our long series with Southern Miss,” Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said in a statement. “I remember kicking off our 1983 SEC Championship season against the Golden Eagles.

“It’s fitting to announce these games one month before we each have a player enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Auburn’s Kevin Greene, and USM’s Brett Favre. I know Auburn people will enjoy welcoming the Golden Eagles back to Jordan-Hare in 2018 and 2020.”

The two teams have met on the gridiron 22 times previously, the last coming in 2008. The Tigers own a 17-5 edge in the all-time series.
