Bob Davie loses assistant off New Mexico Lobos staff

Less than a month before the start of summer camp, and less than two months until the 2016 season kicks off, Bob Davie has a sudden and unexpected hole on his New Mexico coaching staff to fill.

UNM confirmed in a midweek release that Jason Lenzmeier has resigned from his post as offensive line coach of the Lobos. The official reason behind the decision is the assistant wanting to go into private business in order to spend more time with his family.

In addition to his line duties, Lenzmeier held the title of running-game coordinator this past season.

“We appreciate all that he has done for New Mexico Football and wish he and his family well,” Davie said in a portion of a statement.

Given how late in the year the development comes, it’s likely Davie will look within to fill the vacancy.

Lenzmeier, who also played his college football for UNM, had spent the past four seasons as the Lobos’ line coach. It was his second stint at his alma mater, with his first coming in 2006-08 (2006 as graduate assistant, the next two as line coach.) In between, he served as the line coach at New Mexico State.
