Virginia sees pair of players take medical retirements

Injuries have seen Virginia’s depth along the offensive line thinned less than a month ahead of the start of summer camp.

UVa. announced in a press release that offensive linemen Sadiq Olanrewaju and Eric Tetlow have decided to retire from the game of football due to injuries. The players will remain in school on medical scholarships.

Both Olanrewaju, primarily a left tackle, and Tetlow, a center, would have been, per the school, classified as seniors for the upcoming season, and both will continue to work toward their bachelor’s degree.

Olanrewaju played in a combined 13 games during the 2013-14 seasons before missing the 2015 season because of injury. While he participated in spring practice, the lineman opted to retire because of unspecified injuries.

After playing in five games as a true freshman, Tetlow took a redshirt in 2014 and then sustained a season-ending injury during summer camp the following season. Tetlow was a three-star member of the Cavaliers’ 2013 recruiting class, as was Olanrewaju.
