Tech announces reinstatements, one-game suspensions for pair of arrested Hokies

A pair of Virginia Tech Hokie football players have climbed out of Justin Fuente‘s doghouse, but still have some cleaning up to do.

Wednesday afternoon, Tech announced that sophomore cornerback Adonis Alexander (pictured) and redshirt freshman defensive end Houshun Gaines have been reinstated to the football roster. The two players had been indefinitely suspended following their arrest on marijuana possession charges this past April. Gaines was also charged with underage possession of alcohol.

While reinstated, Cheech & Chong will be forced to serve a one-game suspension. Both players will miss the opener against (SEC looks, nods approvingly) FCS Liberty Sept. 3.

The release added that “Fuente indicated that if they continue to follow the parameters set for them that they would not miss any further contests.”

Last season, Alexander started seven of the 11 games in which he played. Exiting spring, and after moving from safety to cornerback, he was the projected starter at boundary corner.

Gaines took a redshirt as a true freshman last season, and is in line to play a significant role in Tech’s line rotation this season.
