Miami isn’t the only FBS program with off-field issues involving incoming freshman wide receivers and “weapons.”
The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that freshmen receivers Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells were arrested early Sunday morning and charged with criminal mischief for damaging property and shooting a missile inside an occupied dwelling. Both of those charges are felonies. The two allegedly shot BB guns at a dorm on the UF campus, causing more than $1,000 worth of damage.
From the Sentinel‘s report:A UF Police Department report said an officer was sent to Keys Residential at 11:30 p.m. Sunday and observed three windows had been shattered and had a small, round hole in each. Video surveillance revealed two males shooting at someone at around 6:45 p.m. Sunday.
The officer identified the men with their ID cards to be Cleveland and Wells. Wells admitted his wrongdoing to the officer and turned over the BB gun. The two players then were arrested and booked at 3:38 a.m.
UF is expected to address the situation at some point later in the day today.
Cleveland was a four-star member of the Gators’ 2016 recruiting class, rated as the No. 2 receiver in the country and the No. 3 player at any position in the state of Texas. The only UF recruit rated higher in this last cycle than the Houston high schooler was defensive lineman Antonneous Clayton.
A three-star recruit this year, Wells was rated as the No. 8 receiver in the class.
