Former Wisconsin RB Montee Ball sentenced to 60 days of jail on domestic violence charges

Former Wisconsin running back Montee Ball has been sentenced to 60 days of jail after pleading guilty to two charges of disorderly conduct and one charge of battery as part of a plea agreement for his role in two domestic abuse incidents, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Ball will also be submitted to 18 months of probation as part of his plea, plus a domestic abuse treatment program and to refrain from contact with his victims.

He must also completely refrain from alcohol.

“I know that you’ve received trophies and scholarships for pounding people on the gridiron,” judge William Hanrahan told Hall. “But you have crossed the line. You’ve earned nothing but condemnation and scorn here for your actions.

“There is a difference between hitting big guys in helmets and protective gear and throwing around frail, young women that are vulnerable and depend on you.”

Ball’s charges included an accusation of throwing a girlfriend across a Madison hotel room, and another of choking and suffocating a different ex-girlfriend.

“My counseling has been helping me out to correct my imperfections and I understand I made a few mistakes in my life and I’m willing to do whatever I need to do to help myself,” Ball said.

Wisconsin’s all-time touchdowns leader, Ball was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2012.
