‘Personal reasons’ cost Kentucky an experienced lineman, maybe for entire 2016 season

Kentucky’s depth, experience and talent along the defensive line will be tested thanks to an abrupt departure recently.

Defensive tackle Regie Meant, head coach Mark Stoops confirmed Monday afternoon, has left the football team for what was described as “personal reasons.” One report states that “the team is not anticipating his return at any point this fall.”

“It has nothing to do with football, nothing to do with us or playing or anything like that,” Stoops said. “It has to do with himself. I ask you to just leave that and respect him.”

The past two seasons, Meant has played in a combined 21 games. He started four games as a redshirt sophomore in 2015.

Stoops acknowledged that Meant’s departure “is a blow to us and our depth on the d-line.”
