Suspended by Notre Dame, Grant Blankenship transfers to Oklahoma

Suspended by one Power Five program, Grant Blankenship has circumvented that punitive measure by simply moving on to another.

According to The Oklahoman, Blankenship has enrolled at Oklahoma and will continue his collegiate playing career with the Sooners. That continuation won’t happen until 2017, however, as the defensive end will have to sit out the 2016 season to satisfy NCAA requirements. He would then have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

At least initially, Blankenship will be a walk-on for the Sooners.

Blankenship was a three-star member of the Notre Dame’s 2014 recruiting class, rated as the No. 29 strongside end in the country.

As a true freshman, Blankenship played in 11 games. Last season, Blankenship’s playing time plummeted to appearances in just three games.

In April, Irish head coach Brian Kelly announced that Blankenship had been indefinitely suspended for violating unspecified team rules.
