It’s not the injury issue that’s seemingly enveloped the program recently, but attrition at LSU continues on another front.
In a tweet posted to his Twitter account, Tyron Johnson announced that he will be transferring from the Tigers and continuing his collegiate playing career at an undetermined elsewhere. According to the wide receiver, he’s already been given a release from his LSU scholarship.

According to Johnson’s father, there was one reason and one reason only for his son’s transfer.
“He wanted to go to a more wide open offense,” Tyrone Johnson told the Baton Rouge Advocate. “That was the only reason why.”
Johnson was a five-star member of LSU’s 2015 recruiting class, rated as the No. 5 receiver in the country; the No. 1 player at any position in the state of Louisiana; and the No. 27 player overall on 247Sports.com’s composite board. He was the highest-rated signee in the Tigers’ class last year, and only one other player overall was rated higher (cornerback Kevin Tolliver).
As a true freshman, Johnson caught nine passes for 150 yards in nine games.
Should Johnson move on to another FBS program, he’d have to sit out the 2016 season. He’d then have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2017.
