Mike Riley addresses WRs coach Keith Williams DUI arrest

Nebraska wide receivers coach Keith Williams was arrested for DUI on Sunday after causing a two-car crash, and his head coach addressed “the elephant in the room” on Monday.

Speaking to reporters, ‘Huskers head coach Mike Riley said Williams made “obviously a big mistake...a serious mistake.”

Sunday’s arrest marked Williams’s third such charge for driving under the influence. Riley confirmed Nebraska was aware of the previous incidents before hiring him.

"(Williams) went through a background check with our human resources and they knew of stuff. And they cleared him. In the hiring process we did know,” Riley said, via USA Today. “He was basically cleared and the time frame of it...you never know when things crops up for different people. Because he was cleared went forward as normal employee.”

As for any punishment Williams may receive, Riley said only that the situation will be monitored moving forward.

“This thing will be done in the right way, with all the bases covered — knowing the seriousness,” Riley said.
