One of the top members of Charlie Strong‘s heralded 2016 signing class is now, at long last, set to actually join Strong’s 2016 roster.
Outside linebacker Erick Fowler, the No. 74-ranked incoming freshman according to the 247Sports composite rankings, has passed the tests necessary to clear the NCAA Clearinghouse and join the Longhorns’ roster.
The school has not made the news official, but Fowler’s father posted the news to Twitter and his mother, Ericka Williams, confirmed the news to the Austin American-Statesman.
Fowler is set to undergo a physical either today or tomorrow and will begin practicing shortly thereafter.
Though his status for this season seemingly begins in doubt considering he won’t practice for the first time until mid-August, Texas is looking for playmakers at his position. Among the Longhorns’ top 12 returning tacklers, only two — sophomores Malik Jefferson and Anthony Wheeler — are linebackers.
