Leonard Fournette in walking boot after ‘light’ ankle sprain

LSU running back and Heisman Trophy favorite Leonard Fournette is in a walking boot after suffering what head coach Les Miles described as a “light” ankle sprain during practice Tuesday.

Miles was unsure when Fournette will return to practice.

“I don’t know,” Miles told The (Baton Rouge) Advocate. “I know it’s not, in his words ... He’ll be fine.”

LSU has already lost defensive linemen Christian LaCouture and Isaiah Washington to season-ending injuries and defensive back Corey Thompson for six weeks to a lower leg injury.

The Tigers are also dealing with mass devastation in their community as a torrential downpour over the weekend led to floods that have enveloped much of Baton Rouge and southern Louisiana.

Normally a football player leaving his facility in a walking boot is much more of an overly careful precaution than news, but when that boot is wrapped around one of the most valuable legs in college football, well, it’s treated differently.

Fournette led the nation last season while setting school records with 1,953 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on an even 300 carries.
