Practice fight reportedly triggered Gator players’ suspensions

And now we know a little more of the rest of the story.

Wednesday, Jim McElwain announced that first-team All-SEC cornerback Jalen Tabor and sophomore tight end C’yontai Lewis have been suspended for all team activities through Sept. 3, including the opener against UMass. The head coach, other than the standard “unspecified violation of tam rules,” declined to discuss any specifics that triggered the twin suspensions.

The Associated Press, however, delved a little bit into the details.

... a person familiar with the situation said Tabor and Lewis are being punished for fighting in practice. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because McElwain has not revealed the reason behind the suspensions.

Provided Balboa and Creed can abstain from fisticuffs between now and then, the teammates will be reinstated the Sunday after the opener and be eligible to practice with the Gators in the run-up to the SEC opener against Kentucky the following Saturday.
