VIDEO: Baylor player caught beating dog with belt, kicking it

Another day, yet another incident that casts the Baylor football program in a negative light.

KXXV-TV obtained a Snapchat video recorded this past June that showed Bears wide receiver Ishmael Zamora abusing his dog. In the short clip, Zamora can be seen whipping the dog with a belt and kicking the animal.

A former BU student saw the video and took the evidence to authorities. The station writes that the receiver was subsequently charged “with a Class C misdemeanor and given a citation that could cost up to $500.”

According to the player, he was simply attempting to discipline the dog after it relieved itself in the house. He claims he has since changed his ways when it comes to canine discipline.

“I lost my temper trying to discipline him,” Zamora told the television station in a statement. “I’ve been through training with a dog trainer to help me learn new potty training tips.”

The university is aware of the situation, and will discipline Zamora internally. Normally, that means the player will not be facing any type of game suspension.

“We’re not going to tolerate it,” interim BU head coach Jim Grobe told the Waco Tribune. “He’s going to be disciplined by a bunch of people. The city is going to get a piece of him, and the university doesn’t take it lightly. There will be some sanctions from the university. From an athletic department standpoint we’ll do some things. Hopefully, it’s a teaching moment and a learning experience for him.”

Last season, Zamora caught nine passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. The sophomore is expected to play a bigger role in the Bears’ passing game with the departure of All-American Corey Coleman.
