Coaches Poll: No. 1 Alabama remains in charge while Florida State and Clemson swap spots

Through two weeks of the young college football season, no team has looked as dominant as Alabama. Alabama remains the top-ranked team in the coaches poll this week, gathering 62 first-place votes out of 64. No. 2 Florida State moved up one spot, switching spots with division rival Clemson, the new No. 3 in the coaches poll.

There was some movement within the coaches top 25 this week, with No. 24 Arkansas and No. 25 Miami making their debuts in the poll following their latest wins. Jim Harbaugh and No. 5 Michigan switched poll spots with Harbaugh’s previous program, No. 6 Stanford. No. 9 Washington and No. 10 Louisville cracked the top 10 this week following their latest blowout wins to start the year. Despite a blowout of its own, No. 11 Iowa was jumped in the process.

After being taken to the wire by lowly Nicholls State, the coaches dropped No. 13 Georgia four spots this week. No. 14 Oklahoma and No., 15 Tennessee each also dropped a spot as the coaches were not impressed enough by either of their victories this weekend, perhaps to make room for some shuffling above in the poll.

The only two teams to drop out of the top 25 hail from the Big 12. Following home losses, TCU and Oklahoma State each dropped out of the poll, leaving room for Arkansas and Miami to jump in. Arkansas was responsible for TCU’s loss with an overtime victory against the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth Saturday night. Oklahoma State’s loss never should have counted, but the coaches had no mercy on the Cowboys.
