Deshaun Watson apologizes for Clemson’s lackluster 2-0 start

Coming into the 2016 college football season there were a few perceived givens in college football. First, Alabama was going to be a machine. Second, Clemson was going to be exciting once more with Heisman Trophy contender Deshaun Watson back for an encore following a brilliant 2015. Though the defending ACC champions and College Football Playoff runners-up may be 2-0, it has not gone quite according to the script for Tigers fans. Now, Watson is apologizing for not living up to the expectations placed on he and his program.

In particular, Watson is apologizing for the perceived “negative energy” he showed in a game this weekend against Troy. According to the Associated Press, Watson admitted to “not fully appreciating the opportunity he has to play for the Tigers.”

Perhaps Watson is off to a more sluggish start than anyone would have predicted, but he remains a big reason why the Tigers are still highly-ranked and remain one of the teams ot beat in the ACC, although Florida State and Louisville have not been lacking for energy in the early going this season.

Watson has completed 52.9 percent of his pass attempts for 540 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions in two games. Look for Watson and Clemson to get back on track against FCS opponent South Carolina State this weekend.
