FSU’s Josh Sweat to make trip to Louisville; status for game up in air

Florida State received good news on the injury front when it came to a pair of starting offensive lineman and a “security blanket” fullback. Now, FSU may -- or may not -- have good news when it comes to a starter on the other side of the line.

While Jimbo Fisher didn’t mention it, multiple media outlets reported that Josh Sweat (pictured, returning interception) sustained a knee injury during practice and didn’t travel with the team to Louisville last night. However, TomahawkNation.com reported that the injury isn’t serious enough to warrant an MRI.

The starting defensive end’s father, William Washington, also told 247sports.com that he and his son will travel to Louisville at some point today, although whether Sweat will play against the 10th-ranked Cardinals remains to be seen.

“I talked to Josh this morning,” the dad told the recruiting website. “He was doing pretty good, he was in good spirits, laughing and joking. That’s what matters to me. ...

“It’s wait and see [on his son’s availability]. Coach Fisher always errs on the side of caution. … If there’s any doubt, he won’t play. But if he can, he will.”

Sweat started nine of 13 games as a true freshman last season, and started the first two games in 2016. Should Sweat be sidelined, either true freshman Brian Burns or true junior Jacob Pugh would take his spot in the starting lineup.
