Florida QB Luke Del Rio ‘likely’ out vs. Tennessee Week 4

Tennessee’s defense won’t be at 100-percent for its huge SEC East showdown with Florida next. As it turns out, neither will the Gators’ offense. Probably.

In the third quarter of Florida’s win over North Texas Saturday, starting quarterback Luke Del Rio went down with an injury to his left knee...

... which prompted Jim McElwain to go ape spit on the officials as the Gators head coach thought a penalty was warranted.

In the aftermath of the win, McElwain all but ruled Del Rio out for the Vols next Saturday. In fact, the coach indicated it’s an injury that could sideline the quarterback for multiple games.

Should Del Rio be officially ruled out at some point this week, Purdue transfer Austin Appleby would likely get the start, at least initially.

In his first year as the Gators’ starter, Del Rio had completed just over 63 percent of his passes for 576 yards and six touchdowns. Most importantly, he had just one interception as UF has run out to a 3-0 record for the second straight year under McElwain.
