Royce Freeman injury news OK even as Ducks lose starting OT for season

The negative injury news for Oregon wasn’t just limited to a recent Olympian, although there was a glimmer of positivity on the health front for the Ducks.

Monday, reports began to surface that Devon Allen had sustained a torn ACL in the loss to Nebraska that would knock the wide receiver out for the remainder of the 2016 season. Not long after, the football program not only confirmed the news on Allen, but the speculation that offensive lineman Tyrell Crosby has been lost for the year as well.

FYI, the football program is publicly confirming season-ending injuries to junior WR Devon Allen and junior OT Tyrell Crosby. #GoDucks

Crosby missed the Ducks’ opener because of a foot injury. While the starting tackle started the next two games against Virginia and Nebraska, the true junior reinjured the foot in the former game and further aggravated it in the latter.

Last season, Crosby started 12 games last season after starting nine games at both tackle spots as a true freshman in 2014.

The injury news wasn’t all negative for the Ducks, fortunately, as an injury to Royce Freeman is not believed to be serious. The All-American running back sustained a leg injury in the first quarter of the loss to the Cornhuskers and didn’t return.

Monday, his position coach downplayed the severity of the injury.

“I don’t know what his status is right now,” running backs coach Gary Brown said according to The Oregonian. “It’s a day-to-day thing with him right now. He’ll play this season, no question.”

Despite playing just nine quarters, Freeman leads the Ducks with 325 yards and is second with four rushing touchdowns. His 8.8 yards per carry is third among FBS players with at least 35 carries.
