Oklahoma starting linebacker Tay Evans’ career is over as the result of suffering from concussions.
Sooners head coach Bob Stoops announced the news at his Monday press conference ahead of this week’s clash with Red River rival Texas in Dallas.
“He’s just had some head concussions and the doctors feel it’s in his best interest moving forward,” Stoops said. “And so he’s disappointed. We’re disappointed for him for sure. You know, it hurts us.”
The redshirt sophomore was injured in the second quarter against Ohio State and has not played since. Evans will be placed on a medical scholarship and is expected to become a student coach with the Sooners going forward.Thank you. pic.twitter.com/HeytBBblLN

Evans had 10 tackles on the year and was expected to play a key role in the re-tooled linebacking corps for Oklahoma. Junior college transfer Emmanuel Beal was with the first-team last weekend against TCU for the Sooners and is expected to remain in the starting role vacated by Evans going forward.
