Report: Vols’ leading rusher not expected to play vs. A&M

Tennessee has already confirmed that it will be without two starting linebackers for Saturday’s game against Texas A&M. Unofficially, the Vols will also be down a top weapon on the other side of the ball as well.

Citing unnamed sources, 247Sports.com is reporting that Jalen Hurd “is not expected” to take the field when the Vols play the Aggies in College Station this weekend. The running back didn’t participate in Thursday’s light practice, leading to further speculation about his availability.

Head coach Butch Jones had listed Hurd as day-to-day earlier in the week, with some reports indicating that the back was dealing with an unspecified lower-body injury. According to that recruiting website, that may not be the case.

Indications are that it is not a lower-extremity injury nor is he being benched or in the doghouse. No one wants to say but it’s been indicated by numerous people it’s an upper-body injury.

Hurd currently leads the Vols in rushing with 407 yards through five games. The most productive back behind the junior is Alvin Kamara and his 165 yards.
