Auburn ‘very optimistic’ leading rusher Kerryon Johnson will be available for Ark. game

It appears Auburn’s offense has dodged what would’ve been a significant injury bullet.

Very early on in AU’s win over Mississippi State, Kerryon Johnson went down with a right ankle injury and didn’t return. At the time, it was thought the injury may be significant, or at least in the high-ankle range.

However, Johnson will have an extra week to heal as the Tigers are on their bye this weekend. Additionally, Johnson’s offensive coordinator said he’s “very optimistic” the running back will be available for the Oct. 22 game against Arkansas.

“He’s progressing better than our trainers maybe thought after Saturday,” Rhett Lashlee said according to the Dothan Eagle. “It’s nothing major and serious, but we just hope he’ll continue to improve and get better.”

Johnson’s 538 yards rushing and six touchdowns are tops among all Tiger backs. Kamryn Pettway is second with 505, with a career-high 169 of those coming after Johnson sustained his injury. Three of Pettway’s four touchdowns this season also came in the Miss. St. game.
