No timetable for Florida LB Jarrad Davis’ return after ankle sprain against Missouri

Will the last linebacker in the SEC East please turn off the lights?

One of the most important defensive positions on the field has been hit hard with injuries this season in the SEC and that continued this weekend when Florida star Jarrad Davis was helped off the field in the Gators 40-14 victory over Missouri.

The school announced on Sunday that Davis has a badly sprained ankle and that there is no timetable for his return. The linebacker is the team’s leading tackler and a key member of one of the best defenses in the country so any missed time would be significant as Florida looks to make a repeat trip to the SEC championship game.

If there is any good news about the injury it’s that Davis will be able to take a break this week with the Gators on a bye. He’ll be needed back on the field soon after though, with a brutal stretch of games that starts with the team’s annual rivalry game against Georgia right before Halloween and then three of the final four games involving road trips to ranked teams.

Freshman David Reese took over for Davis against the Tigers on Saturday and would likely slide into the starting role should the All-SEC selection not make it back in time to play the Bulldogs.
