Coastal Carolina to bus entire team to polls on Election Day

Next season, Coastal Carolina will officially join the Sun Belt Conference as a transitional FBS member. As it transitions to that level this season in the FCS, its head coach is determined to have his players play a role in the most significant transfer of Oval Office power in our nation’s history.

A little less than an hour from now, the Chanticleer football players, every single one of them, will all board buses. Why? As a team, they are, at the behest of their head coach, going out to exercise their right to vote.

From MyrtleBeachOnline.com:

Every one of our guys is going to vote Tuesday, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud of,” head coach Joe Moglia said. “The service academies do that. There’s not going to be one other university football team in the nation that’s going to do that, and you know every one of them probably should do that.”

Some players have already voted through absentee ballots, while the coaching staff has helped all the others go through the process of registering and picking up voter ID cards. As full-time college students they are allowed to vote locally, Moglia said.

“Even though some players have voted early, they will go to the polls Tuesday just to support their teammates,” Moglia said. “The right to vote is one of the cornerstones of this great democracy and is a privilege no one should take for granted.

The right to vote is one of the cornerstones of this great democracy and is a privilege no one should take for granted."

That should be on a plaque somewhere. It’s that damn profound. What a tremendous lesson Coach Moglia is giving his players.

And let it be a lesson to ALL of us: don’t squander that privilege, folks; get out, exercise that cornerstone right and vote.
