Josh Rosen’s family ‘overjoyed’ over UCLA QB’s surgery findings

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that the injury with which Josh Rosen had been dealing, and which ultimately sidelined him for the remainder of the season, could have an impact on the UCLA quarterback’s career moving forward.

At least for now, that’s not even remotely the case.

Monday morning, Rosen underwent surgery to repair an unspecified soft-tissue issue in his right (throwing) shoulder. The procedure revealed that there was no nerve damage as originally feared, and Jim Mora described the player’s family as “overjoyed” at the findings.

“What I’ve been told by his family this morning is that they’re overjoyed with what they did find in there,” the Bruins head coach said.

There’s no timeline for when Rosen will return to football activities, although participation in spring practice prior to his junior year is certainly not off the table.

“I know that everyone will do the best they can to get Josh back on schedule throwing the football and participating in spring, if possible, (and) that they’ll do the best they can, and I think that’s all we can ask,” Mora said. “Rather than putting a timeline on it, because I think that’s unfair to Josh or our medical staff or the surgeons, it’s just best to say that everyone’s going to work in the right direction and a positive direction to get him back.”

Rosen came into the season as one of a handful of Heisman favorites coming off a 2015 campaign in which he was a consensus Freshman All-American. In six games in 2016, Rosen passed for 1,915 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. He was sacked 13 times this year; last year, he was sacked 15 times in 13 starts.
