A different shade of dark red across the line of scrimmage has led to wildly different results for LSU’s offense. A week after that 10-0 blanking at the cruel, unmerciful hands of Alabama, LSU’s offense has found room to breathe -- and Arkansas’s porous defense has provided it -- as the Bayou Bengals lead the Razorbacks 21-7 at the break in Fayetteville.
LSU scored on its first drive of the game, a 9-play, 75-yard march capped by a Leonard Fournette rush from five yards out midway through the first quarter.
An interception of Austin Allen led to a short field and another Fournette touchdown run early in the second quarter, and Darius Guice pushed the lead to 21-0 with a 3-yard rush at the 10:19 mark of the second quarter.
Arkansas responded with its only score of the half, a 44-yard strike from Allen to Dominique Reed to cap a 75-yard drive. For the half, Allen hit 6-of-14 passes for 81 yards with a score and a pick. Devwah Whaley leads Arkansas with five carries for 50 yards, but the Hogs have been out-rushed as a team, 81-54.
Danny Etling has enjoyed this week more than any other Tiger; he’s 8-of-12 for 141 yards through one half. Fournette has carried 10 times for 50 yards and two touchdowns, while Guice has rushed eight times for 33 yards and a score.
