Syracuse starting QB Eric Dungey doubtful for Pitt game

As Syracuse gets set to finishing touches on its third consecutive bowl-less season, the Orange appear likely to do so without its starter under center yet again.

On its injury report released Thursday night, ‘Cuse has Eric Dungey listed as doubtful for Saturday’s game against Pittsburgh. The quarterback sustained an unspecified head/neck injury in the Nov. 5 loss to Clemson and has missed the past two games.

The football program has steadfastly refused to address the specific nature of Dungey’s injury. Two concussions last season forced Dungey to miss a total of four games.

Dungey’s 138.2 pass efficiency rating is currently eighth among ACC quarterbacks.

With Dungey sidelined, the Orange will again turn to Zack Mahoney. In two starts, losses to North Carolina State and Florida State, the junior has completed less than 50 percent of his 61 pass attempts (49.2%) for 386 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
