During his time at Houston, Tom Herman either deeply cared about making Coogs football matter in America’s fourth-largest city again, or he did a very good job making everyone thought he cared. Either way, it worked.
The #HTownTakeover was real, and Herman would like to watch it keep growing from afar.
Before he’s officially introduced as the new Texas coach, Herman and his wife Michelle wrote this letter to the city, university and players they left behind in Houston.
With Herman now officially gone, the Houston opening will be an interesting one to follow. The Cougars have an internal candidate in defensive coordinator Todd Orlando, but they should receive plenty of inquiries from other coaches as well. After placing Art Briles at Baylor, Kevin Sumlin at Texas A&M and now Herman at Texas, all within the last decade, the #HTownTakeover doesn’t just appeal to recruits.
